Wilderness Foundation’s Green Leaf Programme

The Green Leaf Environmental Standard is an international standard that measures green accommodation, green business, green products, green conferencing and green events.

The Green Leaf Environmental Standard (GLES) was piloted and launched in South Africa in early 2008 having researched global environmental and sustainable measurement tools. It is an international certification standard developed for the needs of the African continent. Companies and tour destinations can apply for and be certified as environmentally responsible through this organisation.

For over a decade, the Wilderness Foundation, together with strategic partners, has been developing environmental standards and information that can be used to brief and motivate individuals, governments and society at large towards the higher ideal of conservation.

The Green Leaf Environmental Standard is an international standard that measures green accommodation, green business, green products, green conferencing and green events. It measures the effects of consumption on the environment while inspiring environmental and social change.

The Green Leaf Environmental Standard head office is based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa and operates globally through the Wilderness Network in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany.
